Ready to commit to your journey? The Mezzo is Hapū Helpers' mid-range at-home insemination kit built for those who know they're in this for the long haul. With enough supplies for 6 full insemination rounds, it's the most popular choice for people across New Zealand and Australia who want a complete home insemination kit without needing to restock constantly.
At $73.85 AUD for 6 rounds, The Mezzo works out to less than $15 per round, making it one of the most cost-effective home insemination kits available in AU.
Created by two women who conceived using at-home artificial insemination themselves, The Mezzo brings together every piece of artificial insemination equipment you need - insemination syringes, ovulation strips, specimen cups, pregnancy tests, and your choice of disc - into one thoughtfully designed kit.
Who is The Mezzo designed for?
The Mezzo is the right kit if you:
- Have completed a cycle or two and want to continue trying at home
- Want a complete self insemination kit that covers 6 rounds so you're never caught short
- Are a same-sex couple, solo parent, or heterosexual couple exploring home insemination as an affordable alternative to clinical IUI
- Want the option of a reusable conception disc instead of single-use disposables
If you're just getting started, our smaller Dinky Kit might be the right first step. If you're looking to buy in bulk, check out The Stellar.
What’s inside:
✓ 6 round-tipped syringes (gentle, smooth, and just right for the job)
✓ 6 disposable Softdiscs or a reusable Origin disc
✓ 6 round bottom sterile specimen cups for clean, easy collection
✓ 30 premium ovulation test strips – because timing is everything
✓ 6 HCG pregnancy test strips to check in after the wait
Choose Your Disc: Disposable or Reusable
Unlike most home insemination kits, The Mezzo gives you a choice. You can opt for 6 single-use disposable Softdiscs, the same type used in fertility clinics or select a reusable Origin conception disc (available in regular or small size), which can be cleaned and reused across multiple cycles. The reusable option is a popular choice for those who prefer a more sustainable approach to their at-home insemination supplies. Both options work by sitting behind the pubic bone to hold semen close to the cervix after insemination.
Is The Mezzo an IUI kit?
Many people search for an "IUI kit at home" and The Mezzo is often what they're looking for. True IUI (intrauterine insemination) must be performed clinically by a medical professional. What The Mezzo performs is intracervical insemination (ICI) which is done by placing sperm at the cervix rather than past it. This is the standard method used in all at-home artificial insemination kits. It's safe, effective, and exactly what Taryn and Kat used to conceive at home in New Zealand.
- Designed by women who’ve been there
- Simple, safe, and supportive
- No unnecessary extras – just what you need, when you need it
How to Do At-Home Insemination with The Mezzo (Step-by-Step)
The Mezzo Kit is designed to support you through 6 at-home insemination rounds. Below is a step-by-step guide to help you make the most of each item in your kit, all rooted in real-life experience and careful planning.
Track Ovulation with the Included Test Strips
Timing is everything!
Begin testing your LH (Luteinizing Hormone) levels using the included 30 ovulation test strips a few days before you expect to ovulate. For most people, that’s around Day 10 of your cycle if you have a typical 28-day cycle.
How to use:
-
Dip the strip in your urine sample collected in one of the specimen cups.
Let it sit flat for about 5 minutes.
A strong test line (as dark or darker than the control line) means your LH surge is happening — ovulation is likely within 12–36 hours.
Plan to inseminate the same day and again the next day for best results.
💡 Tip: Test twice a day (mid-morning and evening) around your fertile window to catch the surge.
Collect the Semen Sample
When you’re ready to inseminate:
-
Have your donor or partner collect a fresh semen sample into one of the sterile specimen cups.
Let the sample sit at room temperature for 15–30 minutes. This allows the semen to liquefy and makes it easier to draw into the syringe.
Load the Syringe
Using one of the 6 round-tipped syringes (gentle and easy to use):
-
Gently draw up the semen sample. Avoid introducing air bubbles by pulling slowly.
The round tip makes the process smoother and more comfortable for insemination.
Inseminate
Using one of the 6 round-tipped syringes (gentle and easy to use):
-
Find a comfortable, relaxed position (we recommend lying on your back with hips slightly elevated).
Gently insert the syringe and slowly release the semen near the cervix.
After insemination, remain lying down for 15–30 minutes.
Insert the Softdisc or Origin Disc (Optional but Recommended)
To help keep the semen close to the cervix and reduce leakage, you can insert:
-
A disposable Softdisc, or
A reusable Origin disc (if you chose that option)
Insert the disc gently and ensure it’s properly placed behind the pubic bone. It can be worn for several hours post-insemination.
Take It Easy
You’ve done the important part. Try to relax, hydrate, and take care of yourself over the next couple of weeks. No need to remove the disc early — it can be worn comfortably and discreetly.
Test for Pregnancy
About 10–14 days after ovulation, use one of the 6 included HCG pregnancy test strips to check for early pregnancy.
-
Use a first morning urine sample for the most accurate result.
Dip the strip in a specimen cup and wait for 3–5 minutes.
Two lines = potential positive. One line = not yet.
💗 If it’s negative, don’t give up — The Mezzo Kit has enough supplies for more tries!

Frequently asked questions
How is The Mezzo different from The Dinky?
Both kits use the same quality components, but The Mezzo covers 6 insemination rounds vs The Dinky's 3, includes 30 ovulation strips instead of 10, and offers the option of a reusable conception disc. It's the right step up for anyone ready to commit to multiple cycles.
What type of insemination does this kit perform?
The Mezzo is an intracervical insemination (ICI) kit, also called home artificial insemination. It places sperm near the cervix using a round-tipped insemination syringe. This is the at-home equivalent of what many people search for as an "IUI kit."
Can same-sex couples or solo parents use this kit?
Yes. The Mezzo was created by a same-sex couple (Taryn & Kat) and is widely used by LGBTQ+ couples, solo parents by choice, and anyone building a family outside the traditional clinical route.
Where can I buy a home insemination kit in AU?
Hapū Helpers ships across New Zealand and Australia. No need to search "insemination kit nearby" - we deliver right to your door, with fast AU-wide shipping.
What's the difference between a disposable Softdisc and a reusable Origin disc?
Softdiscs are single-use and convenient for each round. The reusable Origin disc is made to be cleaned and reused across multiple rounds, making it a more sustainable choice. Both serve the same function: keeping semen close to the cervix post-insemination.
Is this the best insemination kit available in New Zealand?
The Mezzo is Hapū Helpers' most popular kit because it balances completeness, value, and flexibility. With 6 rounds of supplies and the choice of disc type, it covers most people's full trying-to-conceive journey in one purchase.
How many cycles does it take to get pregnant with home insemination?
It varies for everyone, but many people conceive within a few cycles when timing is right. Factors like age, ovulation, sperm quality, and overall fertility all play a role. As a real-life example, Taryn and Kat - the women behind Hapū Helpers conceived on their 2nd and 3rd cycles respectively using home insemination.
